Welcome Marvin Green!

I had the privilege of hearing from a childhood friend recently. Marvin Green is about the funniest guy you would ever want to meet. He has a gift of making you laugh even through emails.  I have read his posts before and leaned back in my chair and just lost it laughing.

He sent me a picture (which I am still trying to load) and along with it he sent me a poem. Well, you know what I thought. Roses are red…Violets are blue…and then it would end with something hilarious.

When I opened it, the poem was unexpected and I loved it!   I want to share it with you.  By permission, I am happy to give you: A Beginning.

A Beginning

People come and go

in this life we live

and the paths that crisscross

are a labyrinth of accidents

that some how are joined to form

our existence.

Have you ever told someone

what they mean to you,

told them you respect, adore, even love them;

said to them that you

miss their company,

confessed all of these emotions

but got nothing in return?

Have you ever been so excited

to hear, see, touch someone?

The sight of them caused your eyes to brighten.

The sound of their voice,

and you utter a sigh.

The slightest touch and all was well,

nothing else mattered.

Have you wished a single day

might last a lifetime,

the feeling that all was right in this world,

the euphoria of glimpsing

that reciprocated feeling

of  love in your loved ones eyes,

while the silence rages in your ears

as you embrace?

Two lives mix

to become one.

A couple that will last

a thousand lives.

And it only starts by telling someone

what they mean to you.

Happy New Year to everyone who visits my blog. Thank you for spending some of your precious time here with me. It is an honor to have you look at my pictures and read the short articles.  Comments are always appreciated. So please…come visit me often. May we become great friends in 2009!

So what are you hoping for in the coming year? Please leave a comment telling me what you would like to accomplish in the next 365 days. No really-I want to know. Take a minute and sound off for 2009.

Who me? Well…of course I want to lose the extra 10 , 20,  umm 35,  let’s see now…45, okay (gulp) 50 pounds of extra weight I’m carrying. I am a skinny woman trapped in a fat woman’s body. Can’t get out!  Maybe the real me…the one that is 50 pounds lighter will emerge this year.

I want to be in the word and pray every day.Getting down on my knees and back up should not be the only exercise I get all year.

I want 2009 to be the year I put more than 37 miles on my treadmill.

Hoping this will be the year my hot flashes will stop. No one told me once they start you are sentenced to a life time of over heating!

I could go on and on but I would like to hear from you.

It is 12:01! January 1, 2009!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

WRITING

One Minute Tid Bits

by Aggi Stevenson

Writing is the art of transferring our thoughts, our story and our emotions to the hearts and minds of those reading it.

Sometimes as the story travels through the brain and down to our keyboard, things get a little confused. We know what we want to say. We know the story well. We have the big picture so to speak.  It is easy to assume our reader has the same picture in their minds that we have. We may leave out important details because we do know the story so well.

Read your writing out loud or have someone read it back to you. If the story is hard to follow it becomes confusing to the reader.  Go back and concentrate on smaller sections, moving the story along at a slower pace. This allows you to express more detail making the  intention of your story clear.

Don’t worry about getting too much detail. It can be edited later. There is no fix for lack of detail.

Don’t try so hard to get the reader to see the exact picture you see. Leave enough to the imagination that each person reading your story can make it personal for them. The reader may remember a character because they are reminded of someone they know or themselves.

Now go have fun. Write!
